Privacy and safety

This page is written for parents and carers. There is a shorter version for children, and a longer, more detailed version for schools.

What we hold

For you: your name and email address, so you can sign in and we can reach you. For each child: a first name, their school year, the exams you chose, a username you set, and their learning results — questions answered, accuracy by topic and streak. We do not collect a child's email address, date of birth, school, address, phone number or location.

Why we hold it

So children see the right topics for their exams, so their progress is there next time, and so the app can choose what to test them on next. You can see each child's progress. We never use any of it for advertising.

Who can see it

You can see your own family. Children see only their own work. Our team can see first names, a short reference, and how much work has been completed, so we can help when you ask and keep the content working — they never see a child's email address or username, because children have neither shared publicly nor stored beyond sign-in. No family can see another family.

What we never do

No adverts, no tracking children around other websites, no selling information, no leaderboards, no public profiles, no chat or messaging between children, and no uploading of photos or free writing that other people can read.

Keeping, pausing and deleting

How long is it kept?
While you are using the app, so progress is there when your child comes back. Accounts left unused for about two years are marked for deletion, with a grace period of about a month — signing in during that time cancels it.
Pausing a child
You can pause a child at any time from your family page. They cannot sign in while paused, and nothing is lost: switch them back on and their progress is exactly as it was.
Deleting a child or your account
Deleting a child removes that child's login and learning records for good. Deleting your account removes your details and every child under it. Neither can be undone, though copies may sit in routine backups for a short time before those are overwritten.
Your rights
You can ask what we hold, ask us to correct it, ask for a copy, ask us to delete it, or object to how we use it — for yourself and on behalf of your children.
Questions or complaints
Email help@englishshop.co.uk and a person will reply. If our answer doesn't satisfy you, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

  • Ask us anything. Email help@englishshop.co.uk and a person will reply.

Cookies

We only store what is needed to keep you signed in and to remember the settings you chose. There are no advertising or tracking cookies, so there is nothing to opt into.
